Iāve always wanted to write a cozy, fall story about an author. As soon as I saw the hedgehog picture for this yearās Fall Frenzy, I knew I had my little author and his quill. I had fun discovering natural ways our hedgehog might make ink and the forest creatures who could help him. I loved researching for this story as much as I loved writing it. And like Quill, the only thing I love more than writing, is sharing it with my friends. That said, I hope you enjoy my Fall Frenzy entry, Ink for Quill. Ā
Ink for Quill
(200 Words)
Quill was extra prickly, even for a hedgehog. This made it hard to make friends. Not that he minded.Ā
It was fall, and Quill loved nothing more than nestling and writing alone in his burrow.
Ā
He stared at the parchment, plucked out a quill, dipped it into an inkwell andā¦
nothing.
Inkwell after inkwell, his pen remained dry.
Quill groaned and rolled outside to the squirrel's hollow.
āTwig!ā he bellowed. āI need walnuts for ink!ā
Twigās beady eyes glared.
āIāmĀ not sharing with you!ā He sneered, flicking his tail.
Ā
Quill bristled and rolled to the bird's tree.
āRobin!ā he hollered. āI need Juniper berries for ink!ā
Robin squinted from her nest.
āYouĀ never share with us!ā she screeched, fanning her wings.
Ā
Quill grunted and rolled to the pikaās rocky hollow.
āFlora!ā he huffed. āI NEED flowers for ink... please.ā
The pika emerged from behind a stack of books.
āHello Quill, lovely to see you!ā Flora beamed, extending a wildflower bouquet.
Ā
Quill chirped, āYouĀ are sharing with me?!ā
Ā
āOf course!ā she said, āAs long as youĀ share your stories with me!ā
Quill purred with pride.
It was fall, and Quill loved nothing more than snuggling and reading to his friend Flora.Ā
